Crisis and Emergency Management is the detection, prevention and management of critical events and emergencies. By working together, schools and community partners can focus on crisis and emergency preparedness, including efforts to build a positive, prevention-based, school culture. The Center for Safe Schools provides resources, information and best practices on how schools can create plans around the intentional prevention of critical incidents and emergencies while also focusing on how to effectively prepare, respond and recover in the event they do occur.
Key components of Crisis and Emergency Management include:
- Risk assessments
- Planning and policy development
- Training, drills and exercises
- Community-based collaborations (law enforcement, emergency responders, etc.)
- Safety and security technology
